Samish Island Compound

Samish Island WA
2010

Set on the brow of a hill looking over the Oyster beds of Samish Bay this new residence of about 5000 square feet consists of a main house, garage, and pool-exercise building connected by mudroom and breezeway. The components bend around the entry court taking advantage of the views while creating privacy for the small guest cottage fronting the courtyard. While reminiscent of craftsman and northwest building traditions this project expresses a simpler and more contemporary aesthetic.

The entry brings you into a circulation spine that leads you into the large living, dining and kitchen area and the water view. The interior detailing of wood and stone is simple and elegant. Planned as the ultimate residence for a couple and their large extended family, it is designed with barrier free access to all parts of the house including a 3-story elevator.
